A New Iranian Supreme Leader Could Be Chosen Within the Next 24 Hours

Assembly of Experts is expected to convene within the next 24 hours to select a new Supreme Leader of Iran.

The information was confirmed by assembly member Ayatollah Mozafari, who was quoted by Iranian media.

The urgent meeting follows the killing of Ali Khamenei, who died during the first wave of joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran last weekend.

Under Iran’s political system, the Supreme Leader holds the ultimate authority over all major state matters, including the military, the judiciary, and key political decisions.

According to reports, the 88 members of the Assembly of Experts are now deliberating over who will assume the powerful position following Khamenei’s death.

In Iran’s governing structure, the Supreme Leader must be a senior religious authority with both political influence and strong clerical credentials.

Immediately after Khamenei’s death, a temporary three-member leadership council was formed to govern the country during the transition.

The council includes Masoud Pezeshkian, the current president of Iran; Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, head of the judiciary; and Alireza Arafi, a jurist who also leads the Basij, a volunteer paramilitary force affiliated with the state.

The decision expected in the coming hours could shape the future direction of Iran’s leadership and influence the country’s response to the ongoing regional crisis.
