British Tourist Arrested in Dubai A tourist from the United Kingdom has been arrested in Dubai after reportedly filming and sharing footage of an Iranian drone attack. The man is among 20 individuals accused under cybercrime laws in the United Arab Emirates for publishing or distributing content related to the attacks. The case was first highlighted by the British newspaper The Guardian. Filming Iranian Drone Attack Leads to Charges According to reports, the tourist was visiting Dubai when he accidentally recorded the moment of an Iranian missile or drone strike. Authorities later discovered a video of the incident on his phone during a police check. Although he reportedly deleted the footage when requested by officials, he was still charged under UAE laws that prohibit sharing content considered harmful to public security. Cybercrime Laws in the UAE Under the UAE’s cybercrime legislation, publishing or sharing content that could influence public opinion, spread rumors, or threaten public safety can lead to criminal prosecution. The charges apply not only to the person who originally posts the content but also to anyone who reposts, comments on, or redistributes the material online. Officials argue that such measures are necessary to control misinformation and maintain public order during security crises. Legal Concerns Raised by Rights Group The case has drawn attention from Detained in Dubai, an organization that provides legal assistance to foreigners facing legal issues in the UAE. Its director, Radha Stirling, said the accusations appear vague but serious. According to Stirling, the alleged offense could be as simple as sharing or commenting on a video that was already circulating online. Possible Penalties and Deportation Under UAE cybercrime laws, those convicted could face: Up to two years in prison Fines ranging from €4,600 to €47,000 Or both penalties combined Foreign nationals may also face deportation after serving their sentence. The incident comes amid rising regional tensions following attacks linked to Iran across parts of the Middle East. /Zëri i Drenices/ Related PostsIran drone strike Dubai tower Suspected Iranian Drone Hits Dubai Tower A suspected drone from Iran...Read moreMomenti i sulmit iranian në aeroportin e...
