Rama Warns: If Kosovo Is Threatened, Albania Is Threatened Too

Albania Supports Kosovo’s Independence

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama reaffirmed Albania’s strong support for Kosovo during an interview with Turkish media outlet Turkiye Today, addressing regional tensions and the relationship between Albania, Kosovo, and neighboring countries.

Speaking about the political situation in the Balkans, Rama emphasized that Kosovo’s independence is irreversible and cannot be undone.

Kosovo is independent, it is a republic. This process is irreversible,” Rama said during the interview.

The Albanian prime minister stressed that Albania continues to firmly support Kosovo’s sovereignty and stability.

If Kosovo Is Threatened, Albania Is Also Threatened

During the interview, Rama issued a strong warning regarding any potential threats against Kosovo.

He stated clearly that Albania views Kosovo’s security as directly connected to its own national security.

“If Kosovo is touched, Albania is touched. If Kosovo faces an existential threat, Albania faces an existential threat,” Rama said.

His comments highlight the deep political, historical, and cultural ties between Albania and Kosovo.

Rama’s statement also reflects Albania’s continued support for Kosovo’s sovereignty amid ongoing regional tensions.

Rama on the EU-Mediated Dialogue

Rama also addressed the stalled dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade, which has been facilitated by the European Union for several years.

While supporting Kosovo, Rama acknowledged that his perspective from Tirana may differ from that of Kosovo’s leadership.

“I am in Tirana, not in Pristina,” Rama explained, suggesting that the political realities faced by Kosovo’s leadership are different from those in Albania.

His remarks indirectly referenced the position of Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti.

Remembering the Wars of the 1990s

Rama also reflected on the violent history of the Balkans and the wars that followed the breakup of Yugoslavia.

He said he had witnessed the bloody conflicts that devastated the region and brought destruction to Kosovo.

“I witnessed the bloody war that destroyed the former Yugoslavia and brought the fury of a nationalist death machine to Kosovo,” Rama said.

According to him, the memories of that conflict remain deeply present in Kosovo’s society.

Different Perspectives Between Tirana and Pristina

The Albanian prime minister concluded by explaining that the traumatic experiences of war still strongly shape Kosovo’s political environment.

“The memories of that moment, the wounds and nightmares, are still very present there and not as present here,” Rama said.

He added that this difference must always be taken into consideration when discussing political perspectives between Tirana and Pristina.

Despite these differences, Rama reaffirmed that Albania supports Kosovo and considers its security and stability a national priority.
