Romania Grants US Access to NATO Base

Romania has approved a request from the United States to gain temporary access to one of the largest NATO military facilities in Europe.

The decision allows US access Romanian military base Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base to support military operations in the Middle East targeting the Islamic regime in Iran.

The Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base is one of the most strategically important NATO installations in Eastern Europe.

Under the approved plan, the base will allow:

Deployment of US fighter aircraft
Refueling operations for military missions
Temporary stationing of military forces

Romanian authorities confirmed that up to 500 US military personnel may be deployed to the facility as part of the arrangement.
